Levels of Line Dance Classes

I teach all levels of line dances in my public lessons. Here’s a guide to what each level means.

Remember: Modifications are allowed at ALL levels - We should always be able to dance safely and comfortably!

  • LEVEL 1

For dancers with no knowledge or experience of line dancing. We start with the basic steps to create an easy pattern with minimal turns.

These classes will be taken at a slow pace. The patterns will be broken down step-by-step with proper step names to start learning the basic steps and terminology.

  • LEVEL 2

Dancers with no knowledge or experience of line dancing will still do well in this class. We will build off of what is learned at the AB level. These dances still stick to basic steps, but add in a few quicker steps or an extra turn.

These classes will be taken at a slow pace. The patterns will be broken down step-by-step with proper step names to start learning the basic steps and terminology.

  • LEVEL 3

For seasoned beginners who understand the basic steps and terminology. More complex steps and turns are introduced along with new pattern structures (tags and restarts).

In these classes I will still break patterns down step-by-step while showing how to do new moves.

  • LEVEL 4

Experienced dancers with a strong knowledge of steps and terminology. We learn a wide variety of challenging steps, incorporate more body and arm movement, and introduce new pattern structures (phrased).

These classes will be a bit faster paced. Dance knowledge is assumed so patterns will not be broken down step-by-step.

  • LEVEL 5

Requires good balance and coordination with excellent knowledge of styles and technique. Will continue to use a wide range of complex steps, patterns, turns, styles, and rhythms. These dances are often longer as well.
